Which Voice coach has the strongest team entering the battle round?
For the third straight season, that distinction goes to John Legend.
John is the only Voice coach successful in luring multiple four-chair turns — Cami Clune and Tamara Jade — to his team.
He also landed three artists who turned three chairs — John Holiday, Julia Cooper and Rio Souma.
That leaves him with a 10-singer team that turned 24 chairs in the blinds, one more than a cumulative total for Team Blake.
But even that doesn’t reflect the true strength of John’s team because it includes Bailey Rae and James Pyle, artists we met last Monday, and Casmé, who we met in the third audition episode.
They earned just one chair turn, but that had more to do with when they auditioned than the performances they delivered.
The Voice aired the auditions out of order. In truth, John was the only coach with spots left on his team when all three auditioned.
Be assured, had they not auditioned so late, they would not have been one-chair turns.
Meanwhile, the coaches seemed extra stingy with those chair turns this season. Just four auditioners turned all four chairs compared to six in Season 18, the first time The Voice cut the field to 40 contestants.
On the other hand, there were eight true one-chair turns for artists who auditioned when spots were still available on all four teams.
Here’s a look at where the teams stand entering the battles. The number in parenthesis is the number of chair turns for each team.
