American Idol returns to ABC on Sunday, Feb. 27. Here’s more about Allegra.
* She’ll be a familiar name and face to some singing show fans. Two years ago, at age 17, she auditioned for Season 18 of The Voice. She turned two chairs with her cover of “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon, joined Team Nick Jonas and made it all the way to the Top 9.
* Since then, Allegra has released four singles, including three last year. Those songs include “Eyes,” “Lonely,” “Lies” and “Ecstasy.” She also released a music video for “Lies.”
* That song, she explains in a detailed social media post was a reaction to being “catfished by a psychotic predator into the most abusive and manipulative relations I never could have imagined in my wildest dreams — even though it was all online.” Check out “Lies” below.
* That’s part of the trauma Allegra says she’s gone through in the past two years in an end-of-2021 Instagram post, adding “I have come so far since last year and I’m so much closer to the person I want to be. I’ve also written some of my favorite songs and I can’t wait to share them with you.”
* Allegra also released a trio of singles — “4 AM,” “Running with Fire” and “Reality” — prior to The Voice and will reportedly perform the latter during her run on American Idol.
* In her web bio, Allegra explains that she was born in San Diego, spent five years in the U.S. Virgin Islands and moved to Florida in 2014. She performs in the West Palm Beach area.
* In a 2018 interview with OutLoud.com, Allegra said she was raised in a musical family, began playing piano at age 4 and begin playing guitar and writing songs when she was 12.
* At age 13, she performed solo at Carnegie Hall after taking first place in the musical theater category of America Protege, an international vocal competition.
* She has also performed in a number of musicals and also co-wrote, produced and directed a short musical “Ten Years Without You,” in 2018.
