No knockouts, lots of Blake on next episode of The Voice

For those expecting The Voice knockout round to begin Monday night, hold your horses.

The show is essentially taking a week off.

Yep, you read right. In a season in which there will be just two live shows, The Voice will serve up a week of no new performances.

Monday night from 8 to 10, NBC will air a Voice clip show called “The Best of the Blinds, Battles and Blake.” Tuesday, there won’t be an episode of The voice. A game show called “The Wall” will air in the 9 p.m. time slot instead.

The knockouts will begin Monday, April 17. But again, there won’t be a Tuesday night episode. So I imagine the knockouts will be stretched out over at least two weeks.

I’ve listed the knockout matchups we’ll see below, courtesy of the Idol Forums spoiler site.

The site also reveals that the Season 23 knockouts were just as unfair as we’ve come to expect from The Voice.

Each coach had one steal during the pre-taped knockouts. All four steals were used on day one of knockout round taping.

That meant the last six knockouts — featuring 50 percent of the show’s knockout round participants — had no chance at a steal. They were performing in a win or go-home situation.

The asterisks below indicate which singers were cheated in that fashion.

Meanwhile, the show seriously needs to rethink this new playoff pass gimmick. It seems designed for the absolute best contestants, those who can skip a round of the competition without missing a beat.

But the coaches seemed to be using it like the battle round save it replaced.

Of course, what are you supposed to do when Carson Daly first asks you to name a winner of the battle? Only after the winner is named can a coach honor someone with a playoff pass.

Did producers think this through?

Probably not. From the gimmicks to the schedule to the website — which was absent of artist bios for weeks — Season 23 is coming off as a rushed, haphazard mess.

Here are the upcoming knockout pairings. Links take you to bios of the artists.

Welcome to “The Blake Shelton Show.”

A certain tv website has either a quote from him or pertaining to him in “Quotes of the Week.”

They also compiled a list of country singers who they would like to replace Blake, not the list of the best contestants.

Thank you Mark for your incisiveness and intelligence into the manipulations and gimmicks of “The Voice.”

I remember how furious you were with the twist in “American Idol” Season 19 that allowed Arthur Gunn from Season 18 to compete again.

    Keep up the honest work.

Since there is nothing new this week, I’ll be skipping it.
