Adam Levine would appear to have the strongest team on The Voice heading into Monday’s new cross battles.
Not only does he has a pair of four-chair turns on his eight-member team in LeBryant Crea and Celia Babini, but he has a trio of artists who turned three chairs in the blinds — Mari Jones, Domenic Haynes and Rod Stokes.
Of course, The Voice is venturing into new territory Monday and Tuesday with its cross battles, which will pit singers from different teams in a head to head showdown with the winner advancing based on fan voting.
Defeated cross battle contestants could still get a second chance. Each coach will have one steal and one save during the round. In the end, just eight of the 32 contestants will be eliminated.
Fan voting will be via The Voice app and The Voice website and runs from 9:55 eastern time Monday through 7 a.m. Tuesday (adjust accordingly for your time zone, i.e., 5 p.m. to 4 a.m. on the West Coast).
All seven four-chair turns from the blinds made it through the battle rounds. That also includes Jej Vinson and Matthew Johnson of Team Kelly, Maelyn Jarmon and Shawn Sounds of Team Legend and Dexter Roberts of Team Blake.
You’d have to consider Roberts the heavy favorite to win Season 16.
He has a large fan base from his time on American Idol — 23,200 followers on Twitter, nearly 54,000 on Facebook and 30,100 on Instagram. Plus, the show’s condensed Season 16 format — with just three weeks of finals — is going to make it difficult for lesser known finalists to catch fire with fans.
Two Season 16 contestants actually have more followers than Dexter on Instagram, but trail him badly on the other platforms. (Presley Tennant, 40,400 Instagram, 1,150 Twitter and 12,724 Facebook and Julian King, 36,700 Instagram 1,255 Twitter, 543 Facebook)
