Dexter Roberts, a former American Idol contestant, auditioned for The Voice Season 16.

Dexter Roberts is going to take a second shot at a televised singing competition on Season 16 of The Voice.

And 27-year-old country artist from Alabama did pretty darn well the first time around.

Singing show fans might remember Dexter from Season 13 of American Idol. After all, he made it all the way to the Top 7 before being eliminated.

He’s hit some road bumps since, however.

For instance, he was unable to complete the summer tour that followed Season 13 because he contracted Rocky Mountain Spotted Tick Fever.

Then Dexter followed up his Idol run with a four-song EP called “Dream About Me” in 2015. He had writing credits on three of the songs, including “Who You Are,” which was about the time he spent in Hollywood while participating in the show.

But his label folded within a year, and he was left with the debt from recording that project, Dexter says on his YouTube channel.

“That’s life,” Dexter says on that page. “I know that God will provide me a path for my music. I trust him.”

He bounced back with a five-track unplugged EP in 2017. It includes “Duck Blind,” which you can check out below.

And both EPs are still available on iTunes and Spotify.

how is one left with debt from a recording project if their label folds? who does one owe this debt to? sounds like a terrible label or maybe something else. let me tell you how to get it done. round up the band, screw everything else, book a tour, go play the shows. these contest shows are pissing in the wind.

    around
in public like paparazzi are following
    him…lmf
ao…told everyone he grew up on a farm truth is he is a bum who doesn’t work and thinks he’s better than everyone else

Matt~That’s odd. I see him in pics with his little nephew and all the little friends at his little league games. He plays at Hackleburg Neighbor Day. He was so friendly and did such a great job! I don’t know you or why you don’t like Dexter. Maybe you need to just chill out and give him a chance before you go all slanderous and whatever that comment is. I’d love to see a local Alabama boy win! I say go Dexter!!

Love his voice. Simply a down to earth guy. Followed him on American Idol and drove hours to see him perform on tour in Canada. So we will be watching from Canada. Cannot wait.

That’s right C! I hung out in Punta Gorda FL for an entire hot and humid afternoon after AI to see him perform and it was worth the dehydration, sunburn and fatigue to hear his amazing voice. He deserves his chance to hit the big time! Got to meet him too. Awesome individual.

Dexter is amazing! I have known him for his entire life. Not cocky, but very down to earth. He is from a small town and a man with southern charm. We are very proud of him and love his music. Shame on the rude people up there for talking bad about someone they do not know.

I know this young man and his sister personally and he did grow up on a farm. It makes me mad seeing all these slandering comments about a young man trying to persue a dream in the music business.

  13. Linda March 2, 2019 at 6:16 pm -  Reply

All these rude comments are just from people who are made at the world because they didn’t make it. I live in the same town that is from and I know his mother, you couldn’t ask for a nicer family and yes he did work on a farm to help his grandmother out because his grandfather passed away and she needed his help. So don’t talk about someone you don’t know

I want to ask Dextor Roberts more information about his bout with Lyme disease. My daughter is 28 years old and has all the symptoms you’ve had names on the show. She is being treated but not aggressively; her life is at a standstill as you obviously had been through yourself. Can you direct me (her Mom) to the doctor you finally were treated by? She is on antibiotics but nothing is working. Please contact me or at least reply to this if you or someone else can direct me.
    Thank you so much!
    Nancy/Desperate in PA.
