Elli Rowe from American Idol Season 20

Idol returns to ABC on Sunday, Feb. 27. Here’s more about Elli.

* She’s a Nashville-based singer-songwriter who started college at Belmont University in the fall of 2020.

* Elli grew up in Minnesota, exposed to music at a young age as she followed her parents to their performances with “Copper Creek,” a bluegrass band.

* She was a member of the Minnesota Bluegrass and Old Time Music Association (MBOTMA) and was a two-time winner of the organization’s talent show.

* At the time “Tomorrow’s Bluegrass Stars” profiled Elli, she was 14 and played the piano, guitar and fiddle and had started playing the mandolin and banjo.

* At age 16, she earned a spot in the singer-songwriter portion of Grammy Camp in Los Angeles.

* In an interview on the organization’s website, Elli said she started writing her own music around the age of 11 and really dove into songwriting when she was 14.

* As for the challenge of being a young songwriter, Elli said: “I think songwriting is just storytelling. I don’t really think there’s an age limit on how old you have to be to tell a story.”

* Elli doesn’t appear to have released music. But friend Evie Grace released a song called “Friends” that they co-wrote.
