We Are the Fallen announces album release date

Carly Smithson and the other members of We Are the Fallen at a press conference last year.

Turns out we won’t have to wait much longer for the debut album from We Are the Fallen.

I just saw a tweet from Carly Smithson indicating the band’s first album will be called “Tear the World Down” and will be released May 11 on Universal Republic Records.

And to celebrate the announcement, the band has posted a 1-minute, 30-second clip of a new song, “Without You,” on its MySpace site. When I checked just a couple of minutes ago (3:30 p.m. EST), it already had more than 1,300 plays.

The band released its first single, “Bury Me Alive,” last month and is currently gearing up for a late March through May tour as the opening act for HIM.

Stop number one on that tour in the U.S. is March 26 at the Electric Factory in Philly. Tickets are $28 and $31. Go here for information.

Stop number two is the next night at Sonar in Baltimore. Tickets are $26 in advance and went on sale Jan. 22.

While some of the other top finishers from season seven of American Idol opted to go the independent route, Carly joined three former members of Evanescence (Ben Moody, Rocky Gray and John Le Compt) and bass player Marty O Brien to form We Are the Fallen in the summer of last year.

For those who missed it, here’s a link to her blog explaining that decision. I have a feeling it’s going to work out well for Carly.

Hey, and now, for a real treat, here’s Carly singing Heart’s “Barracuda” at a concert by season season Idol champ David Cook in California over the weekend.

David, of course, put on a fabulous show at the York Fair in September (click on his name at right for the coverage) and apparently debuted a new song at that weekend show. Lots more videos from the show can be found here.
