Carly Smithson with We Are the Fallen

We hadn’t heard much from Carly Smithson and We Are the Fallen since Carly joined the band this summer and the group released a free single, “Bury Me Alive.”

Then came today’s big news. That band has signed with Universal Republic Records. What’s more, the band will have a debut CD out in early 2010.

“We can’t wait for you to hear these songs,” the band Tweeted Wednesday evening.

Monte Lipman, president and CEO of Universal Republic Records, announced the signing today.

“We Are The Fallen represents a bold new musical turning point and we`re thrilled to be able to deliver their music to audiences hungering for their
brand of passion,” he said via a press release.

Carly, from season seven of Idol, is the band’s lead singer. Other members include three former members of the band Evanescence — guitarists Ben Moody and John LeCompt and drummer Rocky Gray — and bass player Marty O’Brien.

Moody says the band has been “sequestered for a number of months to deliver a body of music that is going to stand the test of time.”

As for Carly, here’s what she said via the release: “The chemistry in this band has made for some incredible music. We are all so grateful for this amazing opportunity and thank our fans for the strong love and support they are already showing us in this early stage. We look forward to working closely now with our new family at Universal Republic Records to bring our music to as many people as possible.”
