Bouncing around Idol Web sites, I recently stumbled upon a real treat — a new duet from season seven contestants Michael Johns and Brooke White.
The song is “Life is Okay” and you can listen to it for free on Brooke’s MySpace page. Or check out the first clip below.
Michael wrote the song and approached Brooke about recording it as a duet near the end of last year’s idol tour.
“I thought it was really catchy and really nice of him to ask me, so of course, I said ‘Sure,'” Brooke writes in her MySpace blog.
And, to think, in one of last season’s year-ending blogs, 
I suggested the good-looking guy from Down Under give up singing and look for a role on a soap opera.
Sorry, Michael.
The song was written for the “Don’t Look Down” soundtrack, which was released Jan. 20 and is filled with Michael Johns’ music, written with the help of Jeff Foxworth and Rye Randa. The film follows the travels of snowboarding champion Shaun White; the DVD was released Jan. 6.
And, hey, Michael fans. Head to his MySpace page. Click on the “Don’t Look Down” CD cover in the music player. You can hear the entire album before deciding whether it’s worth downloading.
And there’s more Michael music to come. According to a Jan. 20 post on his fan Web site, he’s working on his own album, which should come out in March. “We really did make something special and unlike anything out there right now,” MJ writes.
As for Brooke, her debut album might be a ways off. Judging from her latest blog, she’s suffering a bit of writer’s block. Here’s hoping she recovers soon.
In the meantime, if you haven’t checked out Brooke’s pre-Idol CD, “Songs from the Attic,” you might want to. It includes a brilliant rendition of Coldplay’s “Yellow.” Shortened samples of the album’s other songs and a video are available here. The second clip below is of Brooke singing “Yellow” during last year’s Idol tour.
