David Cook released “Chromance” on Friday.

David Cook said he hoped fans would embrace his new sound on his new EP “Chromance.”

He need not have worried.

At 9 a.m. Friday morning, “Chromance” was sitting at number 13 on iTunes albums chart, an impressive showing for an independent release.

On the pop album chart, “Chromance” was number two.

About “Chromance” David said: “We wanted this to feel unique, feel different, feel like a new chapter. So I leaned on influences like Nine Inch Nails and Massive Attack, but also tried to tap into more cinematic pop stuff.”

As far as fans’ reaction to “Chromance,” here’s a sampling from Facebook:

Claire Hall: “Ahhh i freaking love this EP, every song is just amazing.”

Sothia Chhoeum: “I downloaded #Chromance EP! It’s amazing and awesome ?? Great job David Cook.”

Vicki Araujo: I’m listening to it right now! Thanks for one more outstanding album!!

And then there’s this wonderful reminder of the impact music can have.

Paula Caywood: “I lost my mother one year ago today. I needed your voice more than ever today. Thank you!! This was worth the wait. You are amazing.”

“Chromance” features five new originals and David’s superb cover of Phil Collins’ “Another Day in Paradise.”

And, remember, he’s currently touring with the new music, starting with an EP kickoff show last night in Nashville.

Check out all the tour dates on David’s revamped website.
