Four years ago, Brooke Simpson auditioned for The Voice. She didn’t make it to the blind auditions.

So when the opportunity presented itself again for Season 13, she didn’t get her hopes up.

“I just thought to myself, ‘No, it’s not going to happen for me.’ After 26 years of hoping your dream is going to happen and every door is kind of shut in your face, you just kind of learn to accept that ‘no’ is the only answer you’re going to get.”

This time, she couldn’t have been more wrong.

This time, she made the blind audition. She sang Demi Lovato’s “Stone Cold.” She got four yeses. She joined Team Miley Cyrus.

And she hasn’t heard no on Season 13 yet. The most recent “yes” came last week, when fans voted her into The Voice finals alongside Chloe Kohanski, Addison Agen and Red Marlow.

“My biggest encouragement to everyone is to know that, for a million no’s, it only takes that one yes,” she told Hollywood Junket during a red carpet interview following Top 8 performance night.

The Voice has played up Brooke’s Native American background; she’s a member of the Haliwa-Saponi tribe in North Carolina.

But growing up, a bigger musical influence was her family’s traveling music ministry. Brooke started performing with the Mills Family Ministry when she was 7. More recently, she and her husband have been working with a church in the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., area.

Here’s a look back at Brooke’s performances on The Voice.
