Jesse Larson of The Voice Season 12 (NBC Photo)Adam Levine was the only coach to turn around when Jesse Larson, 34, auditioned with John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy.” But he seemed to know he had just landed a special talent.

“There’s no one with ears that should not have turned around for that,” Adam said of Jesse’s performance.

From Minneapolis, Jesse arrived at The Voice with an interesting backstory. He’d been working at an auto parts store for 15 years when the group he performs with — MPLS — got to play for Prince back in 2015.

Before long, Jesse had been hired by Prince to play guitar for former Voice standout Judith Hill, who was working on her post-show album at the time. The gig didn’t last long; Prince, he said, decided to change directions of launch an acoustic tour rather than a full-band show.

Jesse credits his wife for encouraging him to try out for The Voice. With MPLS, he had been lead guitarist, sang background vocals and took lead on a couple of songs each night. “It was a big step for me to get in the mindset of being … the person in charge, the focal point,” he said after his blind audition.

Here’s a look at his Voice performances and how well he’s adapted to being center stage.
