David Archuleta made a triumphant return to the American Idol stage Monday night.

And the new single he performed, “Hell Together,” jumped onto the Apple Music charts as a result.

As of noon Tuesday, “Hell Together” was sitting at number 68 on the site’s pop singles chart.

It was also 179 on the Top 200 singles chart.

Neither number is eye-popping. Then again, these are not normal times on the Apple Music charts.

We’re in the middle of Taylor Swift mania after the release of her new music on Friday.

Get this, on Monday, before David started charting, Taylor occupied 80 spots on the Top 200 pop chart. Eighty!

As for “Hell Together,” it’s a song inspired by David’s mother, Lupe, who decided to follow him in stepping away from the Church of Latter Day Saints after he no longer felt welcome as a queer male and a member of the LGBT community.

The Idol appearance bumped the song over 500,000 streams on Spotify, and most fans seemed to enjoy it.

A sampling of comments from this blog’s Facebook page.

Tim Meadows: “Loved your song last night on American Idol.”

Julia Cordeau: “Love his songs! Great Voice!”

Alice Gerard: “Beautiful song, sung very passionately by an incredible singer. He is so wonderful.”

Kelsey Wetmore: “I am sure someone will be offended by his single. I sure am not. He’s been through so much. I adore him.”

So do lots of fans, who have continued following David since he dueled David Cook for the Idol crown way back in Season 7.

Today, David has seven songs with more than 5 million streams on Spotify, led by his debut single “Crush” with more than 203 million.
