Concert News, David Archuleta

David Archuleta in Manila (a photo gallery)

David Archuleta traveled to the Philippines this week to promote his new album with a concert near Manila.

And, judging from the coverage I’ve seen, he received something akin to a hero’s welcome.

“The Other Side of Down” could use a boost somewhere. It disappeared from the Billboard 200 last week, after just five weeks on that chart.

It deserves better. It’s a solid second album from the season seven runner-up on American Idol. Here’s a link to the Idol Chatter review. And to coverage of his recent concert in York.

I’ve posted more photos from that show on the Idol Chatter facebook page.

Want more David? Here’s a link to a recent interview he did with Popeater.

And now, the photos from the show in Manila.

Kudos to the Asian fans for their understanding & appreciation in quality music, talent and character. Great to see that David’s loved over there. Thanks.

I agree it does deserve better. I don’t know how much the illegal downloading hurt him but David is one the the highest count of files downloaded. He also needs more promo from his label.

But I’m optimistic that things will start looking up. He has a full schedule upon his return from Asia, including the MOTAB concert.

David’s new album is very good and it is sad it hasn’t gotten the credit it deserves!! I’m glad the Singapore & Philippine fans are showing him the love and respect he deserves! David Archuleta is a fantastic talent!

Yep, it definitely deserves better. Jive & past management have totally dropped the ball, big time. They basically kept David out of the public eye and off of radio for 2 years. And now, Jive is doing nothing – and I mean nothing – to let the public know that this CD exists. Fans have done all they could to help get his singles on radio, short of storming the castle, lol…But it is a great CD, and hopefully it’ll get some promo soon.

David certainly does deserve better. He really works so hard, I can’t understand why the radio stations won’t play his music. It seems like they all stick together. I guess you have to have some kind of a gimick and not be clean cut and be true to yourself and most of all have TALENT, which a lot of performers dont. Especially Boston music stations only olat Junk. Thanks

Aw, so proud of David, he has accomplished a lot in his young years and such an incredibly gifted and talented young artist!
Great photos and yes..the Asian fans gave David some magnificent support and appreciation, he deserves it all.
TOSOD is a fantastic album, it just does not get the promo over here that it deserves unfortunately and lots of illegal downloads, yes. No worries though, David will continue to share his amazing voice and presence with us and he has a great future ahead!

David does deserve better. He did not get the right support from JIVE and his old management. He had no promo either. David has a great CD, new management, and is still so talented. I think that things will now turn around for him.

Jive needs a kick in the pants from Sony, its parent label. Sony is brilliant at marketing David in Asia. His songs top the charts there, whereas Jive apparently doesn’t have a clue how to properly market him in North America. David deserves better. Thank you Asia, for supporting David.

Sex sells. That’s what they are all striving for in the current music. Flash in the pan singers are all blinded by cheap shots and shock values. Music used to be touching inner hearts of people. Not any more! Isn’t it time for a change? Who wants to be the first to turn around all this messy trend on radio? David’s values and messages are timeless.

Jive and David’s old management probably were pressured by AI management to limit promotion of David maybe because he was not made the winner. And there is a problem with Western music industry to categorize everything like to what demographics a certain artist to sing to. What if that certain artist is appreciated by a bigger demographics than the industry thought he/she is confined to? I attended David’s Philippine promo tour yesterday. I observed that his fans are not confined to teen and tween girls. There were about equal numbers of male and female audience, young and old (they were not mere chaperones) alike. And all are not ashamed to let people know that they are David’s fans. Asians, and here Filipinos in particular are music lovers, and know a superb singer/artist David is without discriminating against his age. I hope David’s contract with Jive and 19 management will expire so that David is free to choose other label. It is not to his advantage to be always introduced as the AI runner-up as if 2 years post idol, he has not improved in his craft. David’s new management WEG at this time must have observed from the Singapore and Philippine tour what to do next to help David’s career to boom. Western economy is declining and Asian is booming particularly China, India and most of Southeast Asia. Knowing David is more appreciated in the Asian continent, business sense tells us that more exposure of David to this big market be done. There is nothing wrong to start with Asia then U.S. and Europe rather than the other way around unless one think an artist/singer who becomes popular in Asia is less of an artist than one who becomes popular in U.S.

I do have to say this is an outstanding album and can’t understand why the sales were so low. Great vocals, lyrics, and music!
