The People’s Choice Awards will be broadcast at 9 p.m. Wednesday on CBS.

Remember, two former Idol contestants and the show itself are up for awards.

The contestants are Carrie Underwood, last year’s winner for favorite country artist, and Daughtry, which was nominated but didn’t win in the favorite rock group category in 2010.

Daughtry’s up for the same honors this year, along with Paramore, Nickelback, Maroon 5 and Linkin Park.

Carrie is up for no less than three awards — favorite female artist, favorite country artist and, believe it or not, for favorite guest TV star.

The latest nomination comes from her turn as Tiffany on “How I Met Your Mother.” Her competition: Betty White for her appearance on “Community,” Britney Spears for “Glee,” Neil Patrick Harris for “Glee” and Demi Lovato for “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Carrie’s other competition includes Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts and Taylor Swift for favorite country artist and Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Pink and Taylor for favorite female artist.

As for Idol, itself, the show is nominated as fans’ favorite reality competition alongside “America’s Got Talent,” “So You Think You Can Dance,” “Hell’s Kitchen” and “Dancing with the Stars.”

I’ll be rooting for Carrie and Daughtry Wednesday.

I won’t be rooting for Idol. Simply put, season nine was far from the show’s best. A lackluster cast. Judges who didn’t do enough to ensure that the most talented contestant won. Production problems galore. Nope, it didn’t come off as a prize-winning year for America’s most-watched show.

One other note — performers for Wednesday’s show will include Elton John, Selena Gomez, The Scene and Kid Rock, who seems to be showing up on the stage at all these award shows lately.
