His audition: Jorge Eduardo, 24, of Dallas, Texas, performed “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi. Kelly Clarkson turned her chair a couple of notes into the performance. She wound up being the only coach to do so, meaning Jorge automatically joined Team Kelly.

His background: Jorge is from Mexico, but he’s currently living in Dallas. He says his dad is a well-known mariachi singer who had a big hit in his mid-20s. Since he was a child, Jorge says he has dreamed of following his father’s footsteps and being up on stage. But Jorge says he has a better opportunity here than in Mexico to make a living as an artist. He arrived on The Voice stage with a bit of experience in singing competitions. He competed in Mexico’s version of The Voice, turned four chairs and wound up finishing fourth.

What the show didn’t show:

* The 24-year-old was born in the Mexican city of Guadalajara in a musical family. His father was nominated for a Latin Grammy and his mother is a musician as well.

* According to his Facebook bio, he started playing guitar at age 8 and eventually learned bass and drums as well. He also beatboxes.

* He eventually entered a singing contest sponsored by the Coca-Cola brand and placed second at the national level, according to that same bio.

* At one point, he fronted a band called Divergente.

* He participated on Season 5 of La Voz… México — Mexico’s version of The Voice in the spring and summer of 2016.

* Of that experience, he told Voice Views: “I think it mainly helped me to grow as an artist. And it gave me new confidence when I step on stage.”

* He describes his music as covering a wide range of genres and incorporating elements of pop, rock, reggae, acoustic and folk.

* Jorge has released a series of singles to iTunes, including at least three in English — “Lullaby,” “Fly” and “Go Loco.” I’ve embedded the official music video for the latter below.
