The Voice results show: Who advances? Who goes home?

3

Judging from the iTunes singles chart, five contestants should have very little to worry about during tonight’s results show on The Voice.

As reported earlier today, Juliet Simms scored a smash hit with her version of Roxanne, which is still number 21 on that chart, more than 70 spots ahead of anyone else who performed last night.

Team Cee Lo teammates Jamar Rogers and James Massone (somehow, squeaky voice and all) are also among the top 100 on iTunes. From Team Adam, Tony Lucca and Mathai are in the top 115 among the 200 most downloaded singles.

That could be an indication that they’ll be among the six contestants voted into the next round on The Voice without singing for a judges’ save tonight.

Of course, I thought the same thing about Charlotte Sometimes based on how well her performance did on iTunes a week ago. And look what happened to her.

Despite Carson Daly’s enthusiasm, that recap just reminded me how mediocre last night’s show was.

Time for some results …

Team Adam:   Voters saved Mathai, Tony Lucca and Pip.  Karla Davis, Kim Yarbrough and Katrina Parker will have to sing for a judges’ save.

Team Cee Lo:  Voters saved Juliet Simms, Jamar Rogers and James Massone.  That means Erin Martin, Tony Vincent and Cheesa will have to sing for a judges’ save.

OK, time to grade some save-me songs.

Team Adam

Kim Yarbrough:  The 50-year-old model, actress and singer will belt out Jennifer Hudson’s “Spotlight.”  OK, I’ve heard some of Kim’s pre-Voice music, and it’s pretty darn good.  I got no sense of that from that performance.  Very bland.  Nothing special at all.  Grade: C.

Karla Davis:  After last night’s odd song choice, Karla is going to go with “Can’t Make You Love Me.”  This is much more like it.  At least it offers us a chance to hear the tone in Karla’s voice. Remember, she’s the gal who for years was too bashful to sing in front of her friends.  Grade: B-

Katrina Parker:  She’ll sing “Don’t Speak.” Well, if Adam is going to decide on which singer poured the most emotion into her performance, he should go with Katrina.  Like Karla, she did better tonight than last night.  There was one really pitchy moment.  Otherwise, it was a nice vocal.  Grade: B.

And the save:  Blake, Christina and Cee Lo all agree the save should go to Katrina.  And Adam’s decision:  Katrina gets the save.

Team Cee Lo

Tony Vincent:   He’ll sing “Sweet Dreams Are Made of This.”  And the first couple of notes tonight were better than all of last night’s performance.  Tony, who looks a little scary, is in his element on this song. That’s the best performance we’ve seen so far tonight. Great stage presence. Energetic performance.  Grade: B+

Cheesa:  She’s attempting “All By Myself.”  It would help if she stopped breathing deep into the microphone.  That said, she turned on the power notes toward the end and wound up sounding better than any of the three singers who took the stage for Team Adam tonight.  Grade: B.

Erin Martin:   The gal with the unique voice sings “Your Song.”  She looks fabulous.  But that voice is an acquired taste, and I’m not sure that was the best song to show it off.  There were quite a few bum notes in there.  Grade: C.

And the save:  Adam says he would save Cheesa.  Blake agrees.  So does Christina.  And Cee Lo saves Cheesa.

Honestly, Cheesa would have been my last choice.  Erin is more unique.  Tony turned in the best performance of anyone Tuesday night.

I am disappointed that James Massone took Tony Vincent’s spot, however, the audience probably didn’t see Tony’s YouTube performances like we did. Erin Martin is talented, but Cee lo’s staging, poor song choices and her own personality did her in. Another disappointment, Kim Y. I think she just gave up. Adam’s comments did help her. Katrina’s performances have always been pitchy and I don’t think her new Adele look will save her in the next round. Tony Lucca gave a great performance Monday, but I agree with Christina’s harsh words, he is one dimensional. Easy picks for next week: Blake’s Team: Jermaine Paul and Raelynn, Christina’s Team: Lindsey and Chris Mann(although Christina might try to save Jesse). Cee Lo’s Team: Juliet and Jamar, Team Adam: Mathai and Pip. And as I predicted before the battle rounds, Christina’s team is going to take the whole thing.

I don’t get it – how is Tony Lucca’s singer/songwriter vibe one dimensional but other contestants aren’t? I think Erin Martin, Kim Y, RaeLynn, Katrina, Lindsey, etc are one dimensional. It’s not like any of them are going to record an album with one country song, one disco song, one show tune, etc… Juliet and Jamar will make rock albums. Period. Jermaine will make an R&B album. Period. RaeLynn will make a county album. Period. Even the ones with “odd” voices will try to do an Adele-like album. The contestants who are able to do different styles are: Tony Vincent (but he’s gone), Chris Mann, Erin Willet, Jesse Campbell and Ashley De La Rosa. So it comes down to – what STYLE is your preference? I’m and R&B/Pop girl so I’m going to like Jermaine, Jesse, Tony, etc… and although I love Juliet and Jamar, I’m not sure I would buy a rock album even though they are both excellent at what they do. Anyway…….. I’ve seen Tony Lucca live a few times and he OWNS the room. Look him up on Youtube. He’s a great storyteller!

I agree that James Massone took Tony Vincent’s spot. Although that performance from James surprised me and I liked it better than his others even though he looked like a girl with that headband.

Pip is NOT a rocker. Please sing pop next time Pip.

Poor Adam – I’m not sure I would have saved Kim, Karla OR Katrina! NONE of them sang for their life!

CeeLo had to save Cheesa or Erin after getting defensive of the twitter-hate of those picks, so Tony never had a chance. Honestly there are only two singers on each side that have a chance to stick around – Juliet & Jamar, and Mathai & Tony. Still don’t know why Xtina blasted Tony that hard, his was as good a vocal as anyone, and I think he’ll stick around for a while.

For Blake it’s just Jermaine, and maybe Jordis (I still like her from RockStar). For Xtina it’s Lindsey and Jesse (though he’s too over the top for me).

To me those eight (ok, seven without Jordis) are leaps and bounds better than the others, not even close.
