The Voice: Time to learn who makes the finals

1

The Voice hosts its first results show tonight as we learn the names of the four contestants who will make the finals, which begin Tuesday night.

Vicci Martinez or Nakia. Beverly McClellan or Frenchie Davis. Javier Colon or Casey Weston. Dia Frampton or Xenia.

I don’t think there’s all that much suspense, actually.

Last night’s performances from Dia and Javier have been in the top 10 on iTunes all day.

And anyone watching objectively would have to pick Beverly over Frenchie and Vicci over Nakia.

But it will be interesting to watch how this works. Because tonight’s results will be based 50 perrcent on fan voting and 50 percent on scores the judges turned in at the end of last night’s show. Interesting, huh?

We kick off tonight’s show with a group performance of “Freedom,” showcasing the fact that The Voice has managed to uncover eight pretty special voices.

Javier Colon makes the finals on The Voice. (NBC Photo)We’re going to lose a very talented performer right off the bat. Vicci and Nakia are on the hot seat. Coach Cee Lo Green has split up 100 points between the two contestants. Somehow, that’s going to be blended with viewer votes to decide who advances.

Whoa! Cee Lo actually gave Nakia a 2-point edge over Vicci, 51-49. But Vicci ends up winning something like 124 to 76, so voters preferred Vicci by an overwhelming margin.

Team Adam up next: Javier vs. Casey. Adam’s scores: 65 for Javier, 35 for Casey. Explaining the score, Adam says he had to push Javier through.

And The Voice voters agree, with 73 percent voting for Javier to give him the spot in the finals by a 138-62 margin.

Team Blake up now: Dia vs. Xenia. This one should be easy. Blake’s scores: 50 for each contestant. Come on, Blake!

And Dia Frampton advances, but by the narrowest of margins. She took the public vote 56 percent to 44 percent.

Team Christina results: These could be the most interesting of the night, though I think Beverly should be the clear winner.

Christina’s score: 50-50. Make that two judges who don’t have the guts to make a decision.

And thanks to the viewers at home, Beverly McClellan advances with 57 percent of the vote.

So, four picks and four correct picks as the viewers on The Voice do a wonderful job.

That sets up a final with Beverly McClellan, Javier Colon, Dia Frampton and Vicci Martinez.

Next week, we get original songs.

Are you kidding me? Fantastic. Plus the contestants will perform with their coaches.

And viewer votes, exclusively, apparently, will determine who advances.

It was a pleasure to watch a show with a good voting system. After seeing the very questionable judging nonsense on Idol, this was a refreshing change. AI can you take a hint.
