David Cook helps celebrate all-star weekend in K.C.

In a blog yesterday, I reported that David Cook would be singing the national anthem prior to the Major League Home Run Derby Monday in Kansas City.

Turns out, the Season 7 American Idol winner is in for a busy weekend in Kansas City.

Sunday morning, he’ll be running in the third MLB All-Star Game 5K Charity & Fun Run. The event raises money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation, Stand Up To Cancer and the Greater Kansas City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Fighting cancer is a special cause for David, who lost his brother to brain cancer. He’s been a top fundraiser at the Race for Hope in D.C. for four years, helping raise more than $500,000 for the event.

Earlier this year, he ran the 26-mile Los Angeles marathon, raising more than $72,000 for the fight against brain cancers.

At the All-Star 5K in Kansas City, he’ll also hand out medals and congratulate participants as they cross the finish line, along with former Royal players.

Once the 5K is over, it’s off to the softball diamond for David.

He and Season 11 Idol contestant Haley Reinhart are among the singers expected to participate in the All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game.

Other participants include K.C. Chief quarterback Matt Cassel, Chord Overstreet of Glee, Eric Stonestreet of Modern Family and former Major League stars Ernie Banks, Rollie Fingers, Rickey Henderson, Ozzie Smith and K.C. favorite George Brett.

And the softball game will apparently be televised Monday night, after the Home Run Derby airs on ESPN (8 p.m.) The anticipated airtime of the softball game is 10:30 p.m.

Yep! Great to have Cook back in Missouri for a few days after his AWESOME Pearl Harbor July 4 concert for service personnel (see YT vids) and on his way to tour Indonesia/Phillipines! He does KC proud.

Love Dave and it is wonderful that he is so involved this weekend. I hope we get a recording of the SSB. He is one of the best singers of the anthem.
