Music charts: Kelly Clarkson, Mandisa on the move

Mandisa will release a new album in early April. So, did you read those Grammy night tweets from former Idol contestant Mandisa?

She wrote that she’s already picked a dress to wear to the Dove Awards, but was reconsidering after seeing what Lady Gaga, Cee-Lo and Nicki Minaj wore to the Grammys, she was reconsidering.

Then, lest anyone take her seriously, she quickly tweeted that she had no intention of showing up as an egg or wearing feathers or a leopard print.

This is all a way to remind you to check out my picks for best and worst of last weekend’s Grammy awards, if you haven’t seen that blog, and the Grammy night photo gallery, featuring photos of Adam Lambert, Jordin Sparks, Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Lopez (looking especially stunning) and many of the other artists who turned out.

And a device to back into a look at the Billboard music charts when there isn’t a lot of new Idol news to report.

Mandisa’s new single,  “Stronger,” reached a new peak position of 19 on the Hot Christian Singles chart. It’s the lead single to her third album, “What If We Were Real,” slated for release April 5.

Other top chart news:

* Jennifer Hudson’s “Where You At” climbed four spots on the R&B single chart in the third week since its release.  I’d expect her to see another boost next week after her show-opening performance at the Grammys.

* The Jason Aldean- Kelly Clarkson duet, “Don’t You Want to Stay,” has climbed all the way to number six on the country singles chart. The song was at number eight last week.

* Daughtry’s “September” is stuck at number two on the adult contemporary chart. Blocking its way: “Just the Way You Are,” by Bruno Mars.

Now, the complete rundown …
