Blake Shelton loves to play location association when it comes time to reel in singers on The Voice.

But it wasn’t going to work after Selkii’s impressive blind audition performance of Macy Gray’s “I Try,” which aired Monday night.

Selkii hails from Durban, South Africa, and Blake had to admit he’d never been there.

But he added that he wouldn’t mind visiting one day. Heck, perhaps even to open for Selkii.

That did the trick.

“Blake really won me with his pitch about wanting to see South Africa,” she told Voice Views. “As a proud South African I could never pass at an opportunity to take a superstar to my beautiful home country.

“He is a wonderful genuine person, as is Adam (Levine, who also turned for her blind audition. But I had a strong gut feeling he (Blake) was the coach for me.”

Selkii spent years performing on a cruise ship before auditioning for The Voice. She even met her husband, a fellow cruise ship performer, on that job.

But she called the blind audition “one of the most magical nights of my life.

“Watching it back made me realize even more how lucky I am to be living my very own American dream with a supportive husband I never dreamed I would meet,” she said.

“I am so grateful to be a part of this amazing platform and for all the support of the public and my new found friends and family in the USA — the contestants and crew are like my family here in U.S. now. I am so excited to be on Team Blake — he is an amazing person and so humble for a man of his acclaim. He is a huge inspiration.”

The blind auditions conclude Monday night on The Voice.
