Caroline Glaser talks about a ‘super special’ song from her new album

Glaser wasn’t exactly an experienced performer when she showed up on The Voice in Season 4 at age 19 and advanced all the way to the Top 16.

Three years later, she already has a pair of EPs and an album to her credit.

The self-titled album, funded through a Pledge Music campaign, dropped last weekend. It includes nine tracks from the singer-songwriter.

Highlights include songs called “Wishing Well” and “Wolves.” The album also includes the single “Drive,” released earlier this year. And there are two versions of a touching tune called “Rosalee” that Caroline calls “super special to me.”

A version of the song was included on Caroline’s first EP of original material; she said that EP had to be taken down from iTunes because of management issues.

“But I always knew I would re-record/release this song,” she told Voice Views.

She wrote the song with Angaleena Presley in Nashville in 2013 and recalls that it was one of her first co-writes, “so I was super nervous.”

dug up this verse I had written — I became inspired by the story about an old woman named Rosalie who became very ill. The concept of eternal love kind of stuck out to me after hearing how her husband stuck by her side through the ups and downs,” Caroline explains.

“I took this idea to Angaleena, and it turned out her grandmother had been suffering from Alzheimers. Her family had been standing by her and supporting her and taking care of her as she’d been getting worse. So this became extremely emotional for both of us. It was one of those songs that just kind of wrote itself.”

And Caroline changed the spelling to Rosalee to incorporate Angeleena’s family name.

All of the songs on the new album are Caroline originals except one — a cover of The Outfield’s 1985 hit “Your Love.” She explains in an interview with DO615.

“I think there’s something really cool about artists doing unexpected covers and I thought what better than an upbeat ’80s cover tune? That song is a classic and perfect as is, but I really enjoyed re-arranging it into an ambient ballad. It’s one of my favorites to play now.”

Physical copies of the new album are available from Caroline’s website. You can also keep up with her through Facebook. On Twitter, she’s simply @CarolineGlaser.
