In the process, John Legend landed Parijita, his second four-chair turn artist in as many nights.
Only Camila Cabello has more at this point, with three four-chair turns gracing her team roster.
The bad news from Tuesday’s episode is that The Voice again has started montaging singers who made the show. Which is, quite frankly, infuriating.
Follow along.
Through the first three blind audition episodes, the show featured seven artists who didn’t turn a chair and, hence, didn’t earn a spot on the show. They featured another Tuesday, making eight altogether.
Yet producers decided to montage three singers — Eva Ullman, Eric Who and Destiny Leigh — who had successful blind auditions, turned a chair and earned a spot on the show.
In who’s muddled mind does that make any sense?
Especially since those artists spend about a month preparing for the blind audition.
Don’t those who make the show deserve more than a few seconds of airtime?
Isn’t it disrespectful to spotlight singers who didn’t make the show, then shortchange singers who did?
And if The Voice is hellbent on airing the show this way, how about YouTube? Couldn’t they put the montaged singers’ full performances there?
Clearly, cameras are running when they sing. Mics are live. It’d just take a bit of editing.
But, apparently, that’d be too much trouble for The Voice.
On with tonight’s recap. The links attached to the artists names will take you to individual profiles. At the bottom of this blog, you find links to profiles of all 56 Season 22 artists.
Of the singers we met and barely met Tuesday, Tanner Howe, Tanner Fussell, Kayla von der Heide, Eric Who and Eva Ullman has already released music.
BEST OF THE NIGHT
Parijita Bastola, 17 of Severna Park, Md., “Jealous” by Labrinth: Parijita’s soulful vocals were rewarded with quick chair turns from John Legend, Gwen Stefani and Camila Cabello. Near the end of the performance, Blake Shelton turned as well. And that’s before she hit a heck of a glory note. Camila called Parijita’s audition one of her favorites and loved her version of the song. John called her voice transcendent. With some encouragement from her family, Parijita opted to join Team Legend
RUNNER-UP
Kayla von der Heide, 30, of Bisbee, Ariz., “Jealous Guy” by John Lennon: Her lovely vocals enticed almost immediate chair turns from John Legend and Gwen Stefani. Gwen loved Kayla “super original” sound and the tone of her voice. John liked her intimate vibe. Kayla decided to join Team Gwen.
ALSO MADE THE SHOW
Tanner Howe, 29, of Huntington Beach, Calif., “Mercy” by Shawn Mendes: It took a while, but Tanner’s powerful vocal prompted chair turns from Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and John Legend in that order. Gwen complimented him on a strong, quality voice. Tanner decided to join Team Gwen.
Sydney Kronmiller, 25, of Ogden, Utah, “Latch” by Disclosure: Her intimate and surprisingly deep vocals prompted a quick chair turn from Camila Cabello. Gwen Stefani later turned as well. Gwen loved her vibe and the fact that Sydney’s a songwriter. Camila loved her arrangement of the song. Sydney opted to join Team Camila.
Tanner Fussell, 28, of Nashville, Tenn., “Anymore” by Travis Tritt: Tanner’s strong vocals on the chorus eventually prompted a chair turn from Blake Shelton. He was the only coach to turn, so he automatically became Team Blake. Blake loved his hair and the way his voice soared on the chorus.
THE MONTAGED
Eva Ullmann performED Maggie Rogers’ “Light On” and earned a spot on Team Blake Shelton
Eric Who performed Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” and earned a spot on Team Camila Cabello
Destiny Leigh performed Donny Hathaway’s “A Song for You” and earned a spot on Team Gwen Stefani.
NO CHAIR TURNS
Emani Prince, 22, pf Fort Gaines, Ga., “All My Life”: The Voice can be so damn frustrating. Right after montaging Eva Ullman, who made the show, they introduce us to Emani, who didn’t. Ugh.
