American Idol returns to ABC Sunday night (Feb. 19).
Here’s more about Summer.
* Summer Joy is a stage name for Summer Roberts.
* She’s a senior at Belmont University in Nashville and presented her summer recital, featuring a mix of covers and original music, on Feb. 9.
* She also performed two originals — “Summer Joy” and “Melinda” — at a Belmont Office Concert last March. You can check those out below.
* She has more than 2,000 followers and 54,000 likes on her TikTok.
* In a video interview with Belmont, she said songs that most inspire her include “My Mind” by Yebba, “Normal Girl” by SZA and “Apple Tree” by Erykah Badu.
* In fact, she credits “My Mind” for her decision to pursue music at Belmont and said she’s especially inspired by Abbey Smith (Yebba’s) vocals.
* As for her own music, Summer says she’s “still trying to find my individuality,” but said she fears her music is sometimes “too unique.”
* Her favorite thing about attending Belmont, she said, is the opportunity to collaborate with other creatives on campus.
